Programme 2Around 200 teenagers from some of the most disadvantaged parts of the West Midlands are making an extraordinary journey. They are finding out whether, with the help of radical charity Youth at Risk, Birmingham Royal Ballet and the four local authorities, the strict discipline of ballet can help them transform their lives. But, as the second of this new four-part series illustrates, it is not an easy road… Time keeping is proving to be a huge problem for many of the young participants and when they do manage to turn up for rehearsals or their essential personal development sessions, bad attitudes and rule breaking seem to be a common occurrence. Both the ballet professionals and the coaches are beginning to despair. They have the daunting task ahead of them of casting the young people in their roles for the one off performance of Romeo and Juliet at the Hippodrome. It seems that the participants are keen to be cast but are they really prepared for the huge amount of hard work and commitment required to make it on to the stage alongside the ballet professionals? |
Note: A number of people have contacted Birmingham Royal Ballet enquiring if they can purchase a DVD of the television series. The answer regrettably is that the documentary was produced, and copyright is owned, by Diverse TV and Channel 4, and at present they have no plans to produce a DVD of the series. Programme 4 After 18 months of hard work and heartache, the Big Night finally arrives. more...
