There are five basic positions in ballet.
Every young ballerina has to start somewhere, and the five basic positions are the foundation for all ballet. A man called Pierre Beauchamp, a choreographer in the court of King Louis XIV of France is the man generally credited with creating the five positions. When watching a ballet, you will see the arms, feet or both assuming one of these positions on numerous occasions.
