Nutcracker gala presentation
October 9, 2006
Birmingham Royal Ballet will be presenting a gala performance of The Nutcracker to mark the 80th birthday celebrations of Sir Peter Wright, choreographer and producer of the ballet, and former Artistic Director of BRB.
Sir Peter led the company from 1977, when it was then based in London and known as the Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet. He was at the helm when it moved to Birmingham, and remained until his retirement in 1995, when he was made Choreographer Laureate of BRB.
He choreographed much of the company's classical canon, including Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty and Coppelia, all of which are still regularly performed to packed theatres.
As well as his creativity, he is also respected for the assistance he gave to many in the company. The performance will be held on Saturday 25 November. Further details to be confirmed.
