David Bintley leads Ballet Hoo! applause
September 29, 2006
David Bintley took to the stage during the curtain call at last night's performance of Romeo and Juliet, the culmination of the Ballet Hoo! project. He spoke to the audience of the history of the project, his pride at all involved, and naturally the young people's tremendous achievement.
Following what had been a tremendous but highly emotional performance for everybody involved, he admitted a few times during his speech to be having difficulty 'keeping it together'.
However a jubilant audience were all to happy to celebrate those involved, take full advantage of any chance to whoop, cheer and applaud, on top of the five minute standing ovation that the performance itself had already received when the curtain first fell on Act 3.
In closing, David also thanked and introduced Lady MacMillan, widow of Romeo and Juliet choreographer Sir Kenneth, who also spoke of the enormous accomplishment of all involved, telling them it had been 'the best night in a theatre for yonks!'
The performance will be part of the final episode of the Ballet Changed My Life: Ballet Hoo! Channel 4 series, to be broadcast on Saturday 7 October at 6.55pm.
