Ballet Hoo! graduation
October 19, 2006
The participants of Ballet Hoo! gathered together again this weekend, for a ceremony celebrating their graduation from the second and final phase of the project.
The first phase, which ended in April, saw the introduction of the young people to ballet, and culminated in a performance at The Drum Theatre in Birmingham. On completion of phase one, the participants were invitied to proceed to phase two, at the centre of which was the highly successul performance of Romeo and Juliet at Birmingham Hippodrome last month.
The graduation ceremony was the first time that many of them had seen each other since the live show, and spirits were high. While the ceremony for phase one had centred around each of the young people expressing their commitment to the project, this time around the focus was on celebrating their accomplishment. As such, they were allowed to organise their own event, selecting their own choice of entertainment, music and DJs.
The highlight of the evening was a friendly dance off competition between the young people and the BRB dancers who had performed alongside them in the ballet, which saw Alex Campbell, Jenna Roberts, Laura Purkiss and Tom Rogers step up to the mantle.
The dancing continued for the rest of the evening, awith the bonds between the participants showing no sign of waning as the experience draws to a close.
