After-show interviews transcript - part 3

Well I've got one or two more people to talk to, here I've got Leroy. How was it for you?

Leroy: I thought it was really amazing. When I first started, I didn't think it was going to be anything like this. I thought was just going to be a normal ballet. I was glad I was part of it, but now I feel special that I was part of it, and BRB, and everyone who was part of that, they're just amazing, they really am. And whoever puts them down then they're really stupid, because it is, it is amazing. And if there is ever an opportunity to do this again, then they should, because this was... amazing.

With me here as well is Andy, who was Friar Lawrence in the performance of course. How was it for you?

Andy: Oh, it was just amazing and outstanding for me, I'm completely shocked at how everyone reacted and stuff. I didn't expect anything like it, and it's just... overwhelming for me.

You yourself though, out of all of the youth participants who have taken part in this project, you probably had the longest single period on stage on your own, alone. You walked out there and there was no-one else there, it was just you. What was that like?

Andy: That was just like, unnerving, I was really nervous. It was like walking onto a stage in front of a million people doing a concert! It was just... outstanding, and... to be quite honest, I'm speechless, I am absolutely speechless, it's just... amazing.

I don't think you've been the first to say that this evening! What do you think you've taken from the whole experience?

Andy: That I can actually make something of myself. And that I can do something which I want to do.

Well you've totally proved that to all of us here, to nearly 2000 people in that auditorium, and to millions watching TV at home, so congratulations.

Andy: Thankyou

Well it's been a long and emotional night here for everyone at Birmingham Hippodrome, and as the celebrations go on for this enormous accomplishment for everyone involved, I think we really have proved that ballet really can change lives.
