Birmingham Royal Ballet's June Season at Birmingham Hippodrome

World Premiere of Dynamic Dance
Coppélia
The Four Seasons/Nine Sinatra Songs/Pineapple Poll

Birmingham Royal Ballet returns to the Hippodrome stage during June with three exciting dance programmes that includes a firm family favourite, the swinging music of Frank Sinatra and an opportunity to see work created by some of the most promising choreographers of the future.

Dynamic Dance - 2 & 3 June
New choreography by BRB dancers
In June, seven BRB dancers showcase their choreography for Dynamic Dance at Birmingham Hippodrome. The showcase has become a regular event for BRB and is designed to nurture choreographic talent from within the Company, giving young choreographers a platform to exhibit their work, whilst making it accessible to a new audience.

The BRB dancers contributing their work to the choreographic evening include Artists Samara Downs, Kit Holder, Jenny Murphy, Glyn Scott, Nathanael Skelton and First Soloists Kosuke Yamamoto and Jonathan Payn.

All of the choreography is to music by Igor Stravinsky and the performances form part of the Company’s on-going Stravinsky Festival taking place across Birmingham as part of the Urban Fusion programme.

All tickets for Dynamic Dance are priced at just £10.

Coppélia - 6 - 9 June
Sir Peter Wright’s production of Coppélia tells the light-hearted story of young lovers Franz and Swanilda and their adventures with the eccentric toymaker, Dr Coppélius.

When a strange and beautiful girl appears on the balcony of Dr Coppélius’s house, no one is more intrigued than local girl Swanilda – except her lover Franz. As the characters gather inside his fantastical toy factory, the toy-maker’s ultimate dream comes true and Coppélia comes to life…or does she?

Coppélia is a wonderful tale of deception, disillusion and enchantment, set to a melodious score by Léo Delibes and laced with enchanting humour.

The Four Seasons/Nine Sinatra Songs/Pineapple Poll - 13 – 16 June

The Four Seasons
Choreographed by former company dancer, Oliver Hindle, The Four Seasons is the first to define the Vivaldi title via a sports theme.

Nine Sinatra Songs
Seven couples tango, waltz and jive, celebrating the glorious music of Frank Sinatra. This popular ballroom classic by American choreographer Twyla Tharp is sure to become a BRB favourite.

Pineapple Poll
Last seen in Birmingham in 1998, Pineapple Poll tells the story of Poll who is in love with the dashing Captain Belaye. Alas, Captain Belaye is secretly engaged to Blanche. When Belaye recalls his crew on board, Poll disguises herself as a sailor and climbs aboard.
