Guest Artists for autumn 2007 dates17 September 2007 BIRMINGHAM ROYAL BALLET ARE PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE GUEST ARTISTS FOR EDWARD II Robert Tewsley and Martin Harvey will be joining Birmingham Royal Ballet for the Company's autumn performances of Edward II. Birmingham Royal Ballet are delighted that Robert Tewsley returns to the Company following his guest appearance in David Bintley's Cyrano earlier this year. British dancer Robert studied at the Royal Ballet School before dancing as a Principal with the New York City Ballet, National Ballet of Canada, the Royal Ballet and Stuttgart Ballet, for whom Edward II was first created. He is now a freelance dancer and will perform the roles of Edward in Edward II and Daphnis in Daphnis and Chloë. Speaking over the summer when only Tewsley's appearances had been confirmed, Company Director and Edward II creator David Bintley said: 'When I went back to Stuttgart Ballet to stage Edward II the second time, I wanted to do it on him, but he was leaving the company at that point and unfortunately we missed each other, so I'm delighted he's coming back.' Martin Harvey, also from England will dance the role of Gaveston, the king’s lover in Edward II. He trained at the Royal Ballet School, before joining the Royal Ballet in 1996 where he was promoted to First Soloist in 2004. He danced with BRB last year, for the summer 2006 performances of La Fille mal gardée. Birmingham Royal Ballet’s autumn season runs from September 26 - October 6 at the Hippodrome with two thrilling dance programmes. Following an absence of nearly ten years, Edward II returns to Birmingham Royal Ballet’s repertoire and the Company is also pleased to announce the acquisition of two heritage ballets: Marius Petipa’s Paquita and Frederick Ashton’s Daphnis and Chloë. The Company’s autumn season continues with UK touring dates to Sadler’s Wells, Sunderland Empire and the Theatre Royal, Plymouth.
