Birmingham Royal Ballet triumphs at TMA Awards

Birmingham Royal Ballet has triumphed at the Theatrical Management Awards held at the Hampstead Theatre, London, Sunday 21 October 2007

The Company has been voted the winner of the 'Outstanding Achievement in Dance' category for its performances of Stravinsky! A Celebration earlier this year.

The highly acclaimed Stravinsky performances consisted of a mixed programme of Agon, Symphony in Three Movements and Stravinsky's Violin Concerto and were performed at the Hippodrome before touring the country earlier this year.

The TMA Theatre and Management Awards celebrate the very best in British theatre, opera and dance. These unique awards recognise the achievements of artists and companies based throughout the United Kingdom. The awards champion the excellence and diversity of artistic activity and the high standard of professional, specialist work that contributes to and supports the success of the performing arts. The Theatre Awards honour individual creative excellence and collaborative artistic effort in performance and production and applaud the outstanding work seen in regional theatres each year: work that contributes so much to the vibrant cultural life of the UK.

After collecting the award Christopher Barron, Chief Executive of Birmingham Royal Ballet said: 'The Company is delighted to receive this award in recognition of the quality of dance, the variety of repertory and the level of excellence that is offered by Birmingham Royal Ballet. The Stravinsky celebration is a unique collaboration between us and Birmingham's other flagship arts organisation the CBSO. It will continue into next year when both organisations will present further examples of this great composer's work.'
