Department for LearningProfessional DevelopmentAs well as the projects listed below, the Department for Learning also runs Pianists for dance. Click here to find out more about the scheme. Dancers' MABirmingham Royal Ballet was the first company to provide opportunities for its dancers to study in further education while continuing to sustain a performing career. The MA course is programmed around the busy performing schedule of the dancers and is a credit to the flexibility and support of Birmingham Royal Ballet and University of Birmingham. Through hard work and dedication, 26 dancers have achieved and benefited from the programme, and the course is now in its 10th year. Continuing Professional Development (CPD)To enhance the engagement that Birmingham Royal Ballet has with the community, wherever possible a Company member will lead the activity. To ensure both the Company member and the group have a good experience, the Department for Learning will provide a programme of professional development opportunities and support. For dancers, this is often an introduction to opportunities that could be useful for career transition. Teacher-Training WorkshopsTo ensure as many children as possible have a quality dance experience, the Department for Learning provide opportunities for teaches to attend training sessions. These sessions help build confidence in teachers to help them develop exciting dance opportunities in their school. Teachers as Artists – 'Out of the Classroom'Birmingham Royal Ballet's Department for Learning have invited teachers from Queensbridge and Fox Hollies Visual and Performing Arts Colleges to participate in an exciting choreographic project. The project will provide teachers from all departments with an enjoyable and creative opportunity to work in collaboration with a dancer from Birmingham Royal Ballet and focus on identifying opportunities where dance could be used to enhance a particular curriculum area. Participants will commit to four sessions in September, where the ballet The Firebird will be used as a springboard for devising an original piece of choreography. The sessions will be led by a choreographer and a Birmingham Royal Ballet dance artist and accompanied by a pianist. The project aims to inspire creativity and confidence in dance in both specialist and non-specialist teachers and strengthen the links between the staff at Fox Hollies and Queensbridge schools and Birmingham Royal Ballet. The project will conclude with a trip to the Birmingham Hippodrome to see Birmingham Royal Ballet performing The Firebird as part of the Russian Steps programme. |
