Department for LearningDark Horse – Warstock Play-schemeIn the February half term, Birmingham Royal Ballet's magical Swan Lake was used to inspire two community groups that meet at Warstock Community Centre. The 'Dark Horse' Venture Ladies group worked with Birmingham Royal Ballet's Wardrobe Department and a freelance costume designer making costumes for children that took part in the Centre's play scheme. The play scheme consisted of three, two hour, workshops during the February half term play scheme at Warstock Community Centre. The groups initially worked separately with a sharing at half term and then joint together for two full days in Easter, ending with a short performance for family and friends. 'I was particularly interested in the cross-generational aspect of the project. I think that both age groups gained confidence and showed interest in the cultural aspect of the work. This gave me a sense of achievement.' Kay Wilton, Costume Designer |
