Stage Craft - Sunday 6 Spetember
On the Stage - Sunday 22 November
Birmingham Royal Ballet's Learning department are preparing for two more days of Insight workshops later this year.
The Insights, entitled 'Studio to Stage' give ballet students the unique opportunity to work with Birmingham Royal Ballet dancers and ballet staff, and to experience professional training. The next two days are in September and November, and follow the success of this season's Boys-only and Girls-only days.
Jenny Murphy, Co-ordinator for Learning, spoke recently about the scheme:
'Recently we held a pointe work Insight day, which has been requested ever since the Insight days started in 2007,' said Jenny. 'We were fortunate to have Freeds of London give a session, which was of great benefit for the students. Freeds were able to explain about the importance of correctly fitted shoes, as often young dancers wear shoes that are not suitable for them, which could have long term implications.
'Jenny Mills, Body Conditioning Instructor from the Jerwood Centre, also gave an excellent pilates class focusing on preparing and strengthening for pointe work, with Sian Morgan our physiotherapist giving an overview of the anatomy side of pointe work. It was a day not to be missed and we are looking forward to the days in September and November.'
