A gift in your will

Legacies are vital source of income for us, a fact that most of our supporters don’t realise. To raise some much-needed awareness, we’ve joined forces with Remember A Charity, the largest consortium of its kind in the UK working to promote legacy giving.

With 35%* of people saying they would consider including a gift to charity after providing for their family and friends in their will, and only 7%* doing so, there is huge potential to increase income from legacies. We are proud to be working with Remember A Charity to make this a reality.

Any gift, large or small can make a significant difference to the future of Birmingham Royal Ballet...

*TNS Social 2008

Naturally, your first priority will be to safeguard the interests of your loved ones. But as the years go by, many of us find that there is room to leave a gift to charity. What’s more you don’t have to be wealthy to leave a worthwhile gift. Any gift, of whatever size, is precious to Birmingham Royal Ballet because it will enable us to continue creating world-class ballet, invest in our dancers and help inspire the next generation of audiences to experience the wonder of ballet. The added advantage of a legacy to charity is that not only is it tax-free but it also lowers the amount remaining on your estate that will be liable to inheritance tax.

Garry Stewart's groundbreaking new ballet The Centre and its Opposite, which toured England as part of the Quantum Leaps bill in autumn 2010, was almost wholly funded with a legacy from Tony Davies, a supporter through regular small gifts, but who was not able to give a large sum during his lifetime. Tony loved new work and was passionate about its creation and about extending ballet to new audiences. It is entirely fitting, therefore, that even the solicitor who executed his will was in the audience when The Centre and its Opposite was first performed in Birmingham.

Make no mistake, a legacy is a gift that will endure.
