No Evening of Music and Dance 2009
12 February 2009
There will be no Evening of Music and Dance concert in 2009. With so many existing commitments - including a greater number of shows with Birmingham Royal Ballet at Birmingham Hippodrome and on tour - it has proved impossible to find a suitable date in the schedules of the performers and the venue.
The concerts, held annually at Birmingham Symphony Hall, see the Royal Ballet Sinfonia performing a combination of orchestral showpieces and extracts from Birmingham Royal Ballet's repertoire, featuring guest appearances from Company dancers.
John Beadle, Orchestra Director, commented:
'The decision not to hold an Evening of Music and Dance in 2009 was a difficult one to make, and is intended only as a one-off suspension.
'I know a lot of people in Birmingham will be disappointed that there will be no concert this year, but rest assured that the orchestra is still committed to audiences in the Midlands.
'Performances with Birmingham Royal Ballet still make up the lion's share of the Royal Ballet Sinfonia's performing activity, with Birmingham still hosting more shows than any other city in the world.'
Christopher Barron, Chief Executive of Birmingham Royal Ballet, added:
'The Royal Ballet Sinfonia has long been synonymous with Birmingham Royal Ballet, contributing greatly to the success of the performances and the overall spectacle for the audience.'
