Pointe Shoe Appeal
A message from Elisha Willis
Hello, I'm Elisha Willis.
In the eight years I've been a Principal ballerina at Birmingham Royal Ballet
I've learned an incredible range of choreography and ballet skills, but the most essential things I use every day are my pointe shoes.
The pointe shoe allows dancers to make delicate, controlled movements, while providing the support we need to dance en pointe through thousands of hours of rehearsals and performances every year. Without pointe shoes we couldn’t perform the beautiful ballets you enjoy every time you see us. They make our art possible.
Few people realise that pointe shoes cost £35 a pair, and in 2011 the Company used over 4,000 pairs.
Keeping me and my fellow dancers in pointe shoes is a huge financial undertaking, and every year Birmingham Royal Ballet spends over £140,000 on pointe shoes so that we can entertain, educate and inspire our audiences all over the world.

£350 donation
A donation of £350 could pay for ten pairs of pointe shoes, which would give an artist of Birmingham Royal Ballet all the pointe shoes she would need for one month of performances and rehearsals.
£140 donation
A donation of £140 could pay for four pairs of pointe shoes, which we can use to bring grace, humour and magic to the stage in one of our forthcoming ballets.
£70 donation
A donation of £70 could pay for two pairs of pointe shoes, which we can use in rehearsals to practice the most challenging choreographies in ballet.
£35 donation
A donation of £35 could pay for one pair of pointe shoes and any donation you are able to make will be gratefully received and put to good use.

As a charity we can reclaim tax you have already paid on your gift, increasing its value to Birmingham Royal Ballet by 25 pence in every £1 at absolutely no cost to you.
