Portland School, Sunderland

Following on from a visit in March 2011 to Portland College for Cognition and Learning, a long-term partner school in Sunderland, the Learning team returned later in the year to deliver three days of inclusive dance workshops inspired by Frederick Ashton’s La Fille mal gardée.

Over the three days, Portland College, were warm hosts to six other special and mainstream schools, primary through to secondary/ colleges. Over 100 talented and creative students and staff, worked alongside two artists and a pianist to create their own performance of excerpts from the ballet. The students attended a matinee performance at the Empire Theatre and chatted with a Company dancer prior to the performance.

'They all seemed to absolutely love the performance - their laughing, clapping and cheering really lifted the Company and quite a few of BRB’s Friends commented on how infectious their enthusiasm had been.' Company Manager

The experience also supported and enriched Portland College’s French-themed week.
