Elmhurst success at Prix de Lausanne
02 February 2010
A student from Elmhurst School for Dance, Birmingham Royal Ballet's associated ballet school, has won prizes at the prestigious Prix de Lausanne dance competition in Switzerland.
Two Elmhurst 6.2 students, Lewis Turner and Yamato Mashiko, were selected to compete at this year's competition, held over the weekend of 30 and 31 January 2010.
Lewis, who is Elmhurst's head boy, was one of 20 finalists, each of whom danced a classical and a contemporary dance solo in Sunday's final. Lewis's solos were Albrecht from Giselle and Libera Me by Cathy Marston to Stravinsky. He was awarded the seventh scholarship prize and the Contemporary Dance prize.
Artistic Director Desmond Kelly said, 'Lewis Turner is one of the most focused, hard-working dancers I have ever had the pleasure to teach. His success at the Prix de Lausanne is a direct reflection of his admirable work ethic. We at Elmhurst School for Dance are very proud of him'.
