Strictly dancingBirmingham Royal Ballet's Strictly dancing features three one-act ballets exploring the expression of joy and love through pure dance. Paquita tells of the homecoming of a young girl to her family, and the celebrations that follow this happy event. Marius Petipa, the master of conveying ideas and emotions through choreography, provides glorious steps that have made the piece, originally just one part of a longer ballet, an enduring and popular classical work in it's own right. Twyla Tharp's Nine Sinatra Songs presents intimate snapshots of seven different couples on a dancefloor, showing the various stages of courtship and how the lovers express their feelings to one another through their movements. Daphnis and Chloë, by Frederick Ashton, tells of how a young couple's innocent love for one another evolves swiftly into burning passion when the two are suddenly seperated. With a popular score by Ravel, this is the first time that this ballet has been performed by a UK touring Company.
