David Bintley's glittering Nutcracker Sweeties is a vibrant, jazzy exploration of Ellington and Strayhorn's Bigband adaption of Tchaikovsky's famous score. With costumes by Jasper Conran and sets by Peter J. Davison, this is one ballet not to miss. Performed here by Birmingham Royal Ballet.

Starkly contrasting is Sir Kenneth MacMillan's last ballet, The Judas Tree. This dark ballet of betrayal, loss and terror with a score by Brian Elias tells the story of thirteen workmen on a docklands buildingsite and their reaction to the vampish behaviour of a woman who arives in their midst. Danced by The Royal Ballet.
