Ian Spurling
Born in South Australia, Ian Spurling studied in Adelaide and at the Slade School of Art, London. His ballet designs include The Seven Deadly Sins (Western Theatre Ballet, Royal Ballet), Elite Syncopations
(Royal Ballet; other productions for SWRB/BRB, National Ballet of Canada, Bavarian State Ballet, Houston Ballet), La Fin du jour and Danses concertantes (Royal Ballet), The Winter Play (SWRB), Peter and the
Wolf (Royal Ballet School). His opera designs include Peter Maxwell Davies's two children's works The Two Fiddlers and Cinderella. He designed costumes for Freddie Mercury, who sang with the rock group Queen. He died in 1996.
