Rachel Beaujean
Rachel Beaujean received her training at the
Royal Conservatory in The Hague. Her association with The Dutch National
Ballet dates back to 1977 and by 1981 she was promoted to second soloist.
She made her mark in particular with her interpretation of works by
Hans van Manen, appearing in a large number of his ballets including
Twilight, Adagio Hammerklavier, 5 Tango's and Sarcasmen.
Additionally, she performed works by George Balanchine, William Forsythe,
Rudi van Dantzig and Toer van Schayk amongst others. She has also performed
various roles in the classical repertory.
In 1993, she was awarded the Golden Dance Theatre Award by the
Association of Theatre and Concert Hall Directors and in 1995 she received
the Award of Merit by the Stichting Danserfonds '79.
In 1997 she stopped dancing and became balletmistress. Since 2003 Rachel
has also been head of the artistic staff. She is a boardmember of the Hans van
Manen Foundation and she works as a rehearsal mistress to help various
foreign companies produce works by Hans van Manen.
