Julia Richter
Born in Belfast, Julia Richter, Company Pianist, studied at the Royal
College of Music with Phyllis Sellick and Hubert Dawkes. She was Head
Pianist at the Royal Ballet School, performing, at the Royal Opera House,
The Man I Love, Concerto and Kinderscenen among others. She went on to win a
Michael James scholarship for the Advanced Accompaniment and Répétiteur
courses at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. As a solo pianist, she
has taken part in premieres of Henze's Elegy for Young Lovers (first French
production), Rhian Samuel's Clytemnestra, Julian Grant's The Uninvited,
Richard Chew's Mary Seacole and Margaret Purcell's Piano Solos and Two Songs
for Tenor. She is an experienced répétiteur and vocal coach, assisting in
masterclasses by Soderstrom, O'Neill, Milnes and Hampson. Her recital work
with singers is extensive, winning particular critical accliam for I am
Richard Strauss at the Purcell Room. She pioneered the position of
Répétiteur for the National Opera and New Music Theatre labs, and as a
result was invited to join the first BBC Imagineering Lab. She has worked as Chorus Master
and Répétiteur for Opera Holland Park, is on member of the faculty of
the International Berkshire Chorus Festival in Canterbury , directed by
Nicholas Cleobury, and has conducted The Beggar's
Opera (John Gaye / Carl Davis). She has guested for Australian Ballet, worked
for The Knack, ENO's Bayliss Project, The Council for Music in Hospitals and
on the Music Staff of Reading University. In dance, she has worked with The
Royal Ballet, English National Ballet, Rambert Dance Company, Northern
Ballet Theatre and The Place.
