Jasper Conran
Jasper Conran
was born in London, he studied at Parson's School of Art and Design, New
York. His first independent collection was shown in 1978, since when he has
won many awards, including the British Fashion Council Designer of the Year
Award and the British Collections Award. Alongside his mainline collections,
he now also designs several ranges for Debenhams, including a diamond
jewellery collection, and collections of crystal and tableware for Stuart
Crystal and Wedgewood. In 2003 he launched his signature fragrances Jasper
Conran Men and Jasper Conran Women and designed his first collection of
furnishing fabrics and wallpapers for the Designers Guild. In 1985 he
organized Fashion Aid. He won a Laurence Olivier Award for his costumes for
the 1990 Almeida production of Anouilh's The Rehearsal which transferred to
the Garrick Theatre and was his first work for theatre. His subsequent
theatre designs include Simon Callow's production of My Fair Lady
(costumes), Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake for Scottish Ballet, and David
Bintley's Tombeaux (Royal Ballet), Brahms Handel Variations (BRB), The
Compleat Consort (Munich Ballet), Edward II (Stuttgart Ballet), The
Nutcracker Sweeties (BRB), The Shakespeare Suite (BRB) and Arthur part 1
(BRB).
