Maia MakhateliMaia Makhateli was born in Tblisi, Georgia, and studied there with Nikoloz Makhateli and Larissa Chkikvishvili at the Choreographic Institute of V. Chabukiani. In 2001 she was awarded a grant by the Georgian Ministry of Culture at the first Chabukiani-Balanchine International Ballet Competition, and named a Diplomat at the International Ballet Festival of Kazan, Russia. As a student, she danced the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker opposite her brother, David Makhateli. She joined Colorado Ballet in 2002 and in 2006, appeared in Martin Freedman's Cinderella. She joined BRB in 2006. REPERTORY INCLUDES Peter Wright's production of The Nutcracker (Sugar Plum Fairy) With Colorado ballet: Don Quixote (Cupid), The Nutcracker (Clara), The Sleeping Beauty (Aurora), Gregory K. Gonzales and Andrew Thompson's Peter Pan (Wendy) and Nine Sinatra Songs. CREATED ROLES Konstantin Uralsky: Rachmaninov Second (lead role) GUEST APPEARANCES Alexandra Ballet's 20th anniversary celebration (Nikya in La Bayadère, Act II); 2006 World International Ballet Festival in Japan (balcony pas de deux from Lavrovsky's Romeo and Juliet, and pas de deux from The Sleeping Beauty and Le Corsaire).
