Iain Mackay

Introduced by David Bintley
Born in Glasgow, Iain Mackay trained as a Junior Associate of Scottish Ballet, before joining the Dance School of Scotland. He spent two years at the Royal Ballet Upper School, and joined BRB in 1999. Promoted to Soloist in 2001 and Principal in 2003, Iain's rapid rise through the Company has been well deserved. Able to take on everything from classical princes to intense dramatic roles, he has become one of Birmingham Royal Ballet's most valued and versatile artists, leading to the creation of a number of important roles in the recent repertory. With his wife, senior soloist Silvia Jimenez, Iain recently guested in the leading roles in Carmina burana with the ballet of the New National Theatre, Tokyo. Iain's talents extend beyond the limits of the dance world however; he also has a golf handicap of only 12!
