John B. Read
John B. Read was Lighting Consultant to The Royal Ballet and Birmingham Royal Ballet for more than two
decades,and is largely responsible for establishing lighting as an integral part of dance presentation. He
has created original lighting for a wide range of both contemporary and classical works and has worked with
most major British, European, American and Far Eastern dance companies. He has lit new productions for Sir
Frederick Ashton, Sir Kenneth MacMillan, Anthony Tudor, Glen Tetley, Jerome Robbins, Rudolf Nureyev, Anthony
Dowell, David Bintley, Christopher Bruce, Alastair Marriott and Natalia Makarova. Much of his work has been
recorded and includes Manon, The Nutcracker, Galanteries, 'Still Life' at the Penguin Café,
Hobson's Choice, La Bayadère, Prince of the Pagodas and Mayerling.
