Charitable trusts and foundations play a vital role in funding the work of Birmingham Royal Ballet and we value the support we receive.
We have a range of activities and projects for which we are seeking funds, these include:
The creation of new classical ballets
Small and large-scale schools and community programmes
Dancer welfare, injury prevention and research
Birmingham Royal Ballet welcomes new partnerships with trusts and foundation supporters. To speak with us about this please contact Jon Ashford-Smith on 0121 245 3537 or e-mail JonAshford-Smith@brb.org.uk
Examples of current partnerships
Freefall
Freefall Dance Company gives local young adults with severe learning disabilities an invaluable education and arts experience including dance lessons, intensive workshops and performance opportunities each year. Participants meet weekly brushing up their classical ballet technique and creating original choreography.
Performances provide valuable opportunities to showcase skills, gain confidence and challenge the stereotypes of disabled people. Involvement increases
participants'
self-confidence and helps them to acquire qualifications, and general life and social skills, as well as maximising lifelong learning potential. Freefall has a huge impact on the quality of life of participants and their families, and is supported by Fox Hollies Performing Arts College.
Dance Track
Dance Track is a talent identification programme targeting children in socially diverse communities of Birmingham. It gives participants their first experiences of classical dance, and aims to inspire participation in dance from an early age.
Each year Birmingham Royal Ballet works with 40 primary schools and in excess of 2000 children aged five-eight years old. Workshops identify each
child's
aptitude for dance, with the emphasis on having fun. Many of the children who participate face significant financial or cultural barriers and may otherwise be unable to access ballet training.
Dance Track nurtures and develops the potential of talented young children providing free ballet classes, outfits and inspirational experiences within a professional ballet environment. The project increases self-confidence, offers positive fun experiences of physical activity, giving children new experiences and something non-academic to strive for. The fundamental principles of ballet training also give children transferable skills such as discipline, team work and commitment that enable them
to succeed in other areas of life.
