General Work Experience
Birmingham Royal Ballet offers work
experience placements in the following departments, Department for
Learning, Administration and Communications. All placements are for a
maximum of five days and candidates should be 15 years and over.
Costume Department Work Experience
What we do: Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Costume Department prepares and maintains costumes for all productions. The department supervises new productions and the making of some new and revival costumes although the majority of costumes and accessories for new productions are made outside the company.
About the placement: Birmingham Royal Ballet offers work experience placements to students wishing to pursue a career in costume. During the placement you will help in the preparation and alteration of costumes to ready them for performance. You may also contribute to the construction of costumes and to the supervision or organisation of costume information. You will apply and improve upon your existing skills whilst gaining experience as a fully involved member in a professional workroom environment.
Requirements: Aged 18+ and in the 2nd year of a recognised or relevant Costume course. In order to qualify for a placement in Birmingham Royal Ballet’s workroom, applicants must be willing to attend an interview and be able to show evidence of good hand sewing and machine sewing skills.
Duration: Placements are for a maximum of five days.
Hours: 10.00am – 5.30pm
