Ruth Brill’s ballet Arcadia became both a proof of concept for the project and the perfect launch vehicle. Although her third creation for the Company, Arcadia was Ruth’s first main-stage commission and a work on an entirely different scale from her previous ballets. Arcadia was also composer John Harle’s first ballet, and student designer Atena Ameri’s first professional commission.

Arcadia became the obvious choice with which to launch this unique and exciting creative initiative as it was created alongside Ballet Now and wholeheartedly adhered to the spirit of the project.

World Premiere: 15 June 2018 (Sadler's Wells, London)

George’s ballet premiered as part of a mixed programme called Polarity & Proximity at Sadler's Well's, London. It was performed alongside Alexander Whitley’s Kin. and Twyla Tharp’s iconic In the Upper Room. It had further performances at Birmingham Hippodrome. 

Born in Worcestershire, George Williamson trained at Elmhurst Ballet School and at English National Ballet School, which is where his choreographic work began. Whilst at English National Ballet School George won the Choreographic Competition for three consecutive years.

Upon graduation in 2010, George joined Polish National Ballet under the Artistic Direction of Krzysztof Pastor, where he danced a variety of classical and contemporary roles. He continued to pursue his choreography, creating his ballet Animus for the company in 2011. 

George’s first professional commission was a new version of Stravinsky’s Firebird for English National Ballet in 2012. He has also worked with Dutch National Ballet’s main and junior companies, Constella Ballet, Lithuanian National Ballet, New English Ballet Theatre and American Ballet Theatre’s Studio Company. In spring 2017 he won the Genesis International Choreography Competition at Milwaukee Ballet with his ballet, Wonderers

Juanjo’s ballet will be premiered at Birmingham Hippodrome as part of a mixed programme called Fire & Fury. It will be performed alongside David Bintley's The King Dances. It will also be performed at Theatre Royal Plymouth and Sadler’s Wells, London.

Born in Spain, Juanjo Arques trained in his home town of Murcia. He danced as a Soloist with Victor Ullate Ballet, Madrid, and English National Ballet, before joining Dutch National Ballet in 2004. He has danced ballets by many notable choreographers, including William Forsythe, Christopher Wheeldon, Alexei Ratmansky, David Dawson and Hans van Manen.

After choreographing several pieces in choreographic workshops, Juanjo created his first ballet, Minos, for Dutch National Ballet in 2010. Following its success, he choreographed Consequence for the company’s 50th anniversary in 2012. 

Juanjo has since worked with many companies, including Slovenian National Ballet, Compañia Nacional de Danza, Madrid, WimWhim, Seattle, the New York Choreographic Institute and Continuum Contemporary Ballet, New York, as well as creating several more works for his home company, Dutch National Ballet.

Juanjo has also worked as a movement consultant in theatre and has been nominated for two awards for his choreography.

Didy's ballet be premiered at Birmingham Hippodrome as part of a mixed programmed called [Un]leahsed. It will be performed alongside Lyric Pieces by Jessica Lang and Petra and the Wolf by Ruth Brill. It will also be performed as part of the same programme at Sadler's Wells, London. 

Dutch choreographer Didy Veldman trained in a wide variety of dance styles at the Scapino Academy in Amsterdam and went on to dance with Scapino Ballet, Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève and Rambert Dance Company.

During her career Didy danced works by many international choreographers, including Jiří Kylián, Mats Ek, Ohad Naharin, Christopher Bruce, Kim Brandstrup, Nils Christe, Glenn Tetley, Robert Cohan and Lindsey Kemp.

Creating her first dance piece in 1987, Didy choreographed for all three companies of which she was a member, as well as independently, and for both of her own dance companies, Alias and, more recently, Umanoove.

Didy has choreographed for many companies and won several awards for her work. She has created works on Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal, Ballet Gulbenkian, Portugal, Cedarlake N-Y, Cullberg Ballet, Sweden, Royal New Zealand Ballet, Ballet Bern, Komische Oper Berlin, Introdans NL, Iceland Dance Company and Lithuanian National Ballet, amongst others.

Didy is also an experienced teacher and has taught contemporary dance classes all over the world, including for the prestigious Prix de Lausanne ballet competition, and the Royal Ballet School Summer School.

Following his training at The Australian Ballet School, Jack Lister joined Queensland Ballet in 2014 and has danced featured roles in works choreographed by Christopher Bruce, Nils Christe, Liam Scarlett, Derek Deane, Marc Ribaud and Natalie Weir. 

Since creating his first ballet for Queensland Ballet in 2015, Jack has quickly established a name as a respected emerging choreographer. In 2017, Jack was long listed for an Australian Dance Award for his work Fonder Heart, and created his first main stage work, Rational/Animal as part of Queensland Ballet’s inaugural Bespoke season. Jack’s classical ballet training and love of contemporary movement gives his choreographic works a unique and lyrical language. Jack’s most recent work was Still Life set to a moving score by Liszt, created for Queensland Ballet’s Dance Dialogues season in 2017.

Daniela Cardim trained with Prof. Eliana Karin in Rio de Janeiro. She danced with Ballet do Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro for 5 years and with Dutch National Ballet, in Amsterdam, for 11 years. 

Daniela is now a choreographer based in London. In 2016 she created two ballets to critical acclaim: Uirapuru for Ballet do Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro and Vertex for New English Ballet Theatre. Her most recent project, a creation for Dutch National Ballet’s Junior Company as part of their 2017 Choreography Academy, will be extended in 2018 to enter the Junior Company’s repertoire.

Daniela is New English Ballet Theatre’s Associate Choreographer and created works for the company in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Her work Vertex has been chosen by Dance Europe's Critics’ Choice Awards as one of the 'Best Premieres of 2017'.
