Following the success of last year’s Nutcracker Discovery Day, 90 primary school children were welcomed into Birmingham Hippodrome on Wednesday 28 November to explore our Cinderella production at close range.
60 pupils from Welsh House Farm Primary School and 30 pupils from St Catherine of Siena Primary School were treated to a morning full of intrigue and fun as they went behind the scenes of the spectacular ballet. Each child experienced a music workshop where they created their own Cinderella music, a dance workshop where they explored the characters and steps of the ballet, a storytelling workshop and took to the stage to see the Cinderella sets and costumes.
We hope to run more Discovery Days around other ballets in future. Watch this space!
'[The children] learnt a lot about what happens behind the scenes. They now understand what an orchestra is, they realise that both boys and girls can do ballet and they were surprised at how heavy the costumes were!'Teacher, St Catherine of Siena Primary School
