Sense of Time, the third commission from the ground-breaking initiative Ballet Now, explores our stressful modern relationship with time. This new piece is by Dutch choreographer Didy Veldman and set to a new score by contemporary composer, Gabriel Prokofiev.
Ahead of its world premiere at Birmingham Hippodrome, we sat down with Gabriel to discuss his breathtaking new score.
The score which is conducted by Birmingham Royal Ballet's Conducting Fellow, Thomas Jung had this to say: "This is one of the best scores I've seen and heard for years. Gabriel has created a real masterpiece. He treats both the electronics and the orchestra with finesse and greatest musicality and electronics and orchestra become one unit. Bringing this score to life and working together with Gabriel and Didy has been pure joy".
Gabriel's score is funded by the Royal Philharmonic Society's RPS Drummond Fund. Established in 2007 the fund enables composers and choreographers to bring exciting new works to life.
