Dancer debuts in Giselle

Last month David Bintley and Galina Samsova’s exquisite production of Giselle returned to Birmingham Hippodrome. For four nights only the tragically romantic masterpiece graced our home stage where many dancers made their debuts.

Our four Giselles were all new to the role: Momoko Hirata, Céline Gittens, Delia Mathews and Miki Mizutani. They were partnered by three new Albrechts: Brandon Lawrence, Mathias Dingman and Tyrone Singleton; alongside César Morales reprising his role. The season also saw Alexander Yap, Lachlan Monaghan and Yasuo Atsuji debut as jealous admirer Hilarion.

Also making their debuts were Tzu-Chao Chou, Beatrice Parma, Maureya Lebowitz, Max Maslen and Yaoqian Shang in the Harvest pas de deux, and Emma Price and Daria Stanciulescu as Giselle's mother Berthe. Finally James Barton gave his first performance as Albrecht's squire, Wilfred.

Whilst lurking in the shadows Alys Shee and Yijing Zhang debuted as Myrtha, Queen of the Wilis, alongside Karla Doorbar as Zulme.

Giselle continues its national tour later this month when it heads to Theatre Royal Plymouth and Sadler's Wells
