#SundaySoundtrack - Momoko Hirata

1)   Hello Goodbye – The Beatles

My Dad has always been a big fan of The Beatles and this is one of his favourite songs. We used to listen to it all the time and it brings back fond memories of my childhood.

2)   You Win Again – Bee Gees

This comes from another childhood memory - my parents love the Bee Gees and used to play their albums in the house often. I love this song of theirs in particular and still listen to this now ahead of big performances. It gives me energy and motivation.

3)   Boogie Wonderland - Earth, Wind & Fire

When I was in Japan one summer, my five-year-old nephew surprised me singing this, and in English! He doesn’t speak any English, but managed to learn the lyrics and I was really impressed. We were singing this together for the whole summer, and since then this song has been one of my favourites!

4)   Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John

The first time I heard this song I was still in Japan. It was used for a TV advert and I had no idea that it was sung by Elton John. I didn’t speak any English at the time and this song helped me to learn before I came to the UK.

5)   Blinded by the Light – Bruce Springsteen

I recently watched the film Blinded by the Light. I fell in love with this song and often listen to it on the way to work. It always puts me in a good mood.

6)   New York, New York - Frank Sinatra

I’ve been to New York four times and I absolutely loved it each time! This song brings back good memories, particularly with my cousins who live there, and I hope to go back there soon.

7)    When We Were Young - Adele

My boyfriend got me a ticket to go and see her at Wembley Stadium in 2017. This song has always been one of my favourites of hers. I remember getting goosebumps when I heard her singing this live.

8)   Hey Girl - Lady Gaga ft Florence Welch

I have always been a huge fan of Lady Gaga ever since I first heard her, and I admire her as an artist and person. I was meant to go and see her but unfortunately, she had to postpone her gig and I never made it. I am still hoping to see her live someday.

 9)  Madama Butterfly, Act I, Vogliatemi bene – Giacomo Puccini

Madama Butterfly is one of my favourite operas. I’ve seen it twice and it has moved me so much each time. At the beginning of this year, I was lucky enough to dance the pas de deux for Northern Ballet’s 50th anniversary gala. I was so thrilled and I couldn’t be happier to dance to my favourite music.

10)   Ballade No.1 in G Minor, Op.23 – Fredric Chopin

I fell in love with this piece when I saw the ballet - The Lady of the Camellias by John Neumeier. I was even given the piano sheet music, but I haven’t been able to play it yet. Hopefully one day I will be able to dance this, or play it!
