1) Two Fish and an Elephant - Khruangbin
Break of dawn, before the scorching heat of summer laying down on a Croatian beach, under the shade of the branches. This is where I first heard this band, live. I’m taken back there when I hear their songs.
2) Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi, The Four Seasons: Spring 1 - Max Richter
One of my favourite modern composers, here recomposing Vivaldi’s classic. I dream of one day being able to dancing to Max Ritcher’s music.
3) Little Wing - Jimi Hendrix
It’s not until you reach a certain age that you realise how much influence you parents have on your taste in music. Mine, and my dad’s, favourite Jimi Hendrix song!
4) Maria Maria (feat. The Product G&B) - Radio Mix - Santana
Guitarists like Carlos Santana sing through their riffs. This song makes me want to meet the infamous Maria.
5) The Night Window - Thomas Newman
You may not know this man by name, but for sure you’ve heard his music. One of the most adored cinematic composers. The Night Window is deep and eerily beautiful.
6) Belle - Patrick Fiori
Belle, an iconic song. The passion of the voices and lyrics transcends the language barrier.
7) The Finishing - Stavroz
I love when a track takes me on a journey. The saxophonist’s compelling story laid bare.
8) Ain't No Sunshine - Bill Withers
Bill Withers... need I say more???
9) Song for a Lonely Soul - David Rudder
David Rudder, a native Trinidadian, like my mother. For me this is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. 'Oh take me back to the island.'
10) Air on the G String - Suite no.3, 2nd Movement - Bach - Trevor 'Inch High' Valentine, Desperadoes Steel Orchestra
The steel pan, one of the youngest acoustic instruments in the world. Invented by the 1940s and possibly the only instrument made out of industrial waste. It was once said that if the steel pan had been invented in the 18th century, Bach would've replaced the piano with it. A very bold statement yes. Regardless, the steel pan’s simplicity only increases its beauty.
11) Niv - Geju
This song will serenade my crossing through the desert, you can almost hear the snakes pass you.
12) Changes - Tupac Shakur
Tupac Shakur, considered one of the most influential rappers of all time. Sensitive and passionate in his activism against injustice toward African Americans. For many struggling in America his lyrics, in Changes, ring true to this day.
13) Desafinado - A Day in New York - Ryuichi Sakamoto
Beautiful Brazilian, jazz and classical fusion. Could be a soundtrack of a New York Sunday stroll.
14) Saman - Ólafur Arnalds
Ólafur Arnalds, so much emotion in all of his music. I’m always transported and moved when I hear his creations. I would urge everyone to embrace his music.
15) I Fell in Love - Gidge
If you have made it this far, then you have let me lead you on my eclectic journey through cultures and genres. I now hand over to Gidge to pass you through their dimension.
16) Strange - Celeste
Finishing on the soulful voice of Celeste, and these meaningful lyrics. I had to stop the car the first time I heard this on the radio. Enjoy 😊
