It is with great disappointment that we have had to cancel Birmingham Royal Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker at the Royal Albert Hall this year.
The government restrictions from 2 December will limit public attendance at indoor events to 1,000 people which makes it financially impossible to stage a production of this scale. We had been determined to share The Nutcracker this year and had been investigating various options including a streamed performance, but the costs were just too great to make this a viable option.
The Royal Albert Hall have been in contact with bookers this afternoon with further information about their tickets.
Royal Albert Hall and Birmingham Royal Ballet present The Nutcracker
By popular demand, Birmingham Royal Ballet returns to Royal Albert Hall for a fourth season at the end of 2020 with our enchanting production of this Christmas favourite. This magical ballet, with its ravishing Tchaikovsky score, is the quintessential Christmas treat for all the family.
We join Clara in the Victorian setting of her family home. As midnight strikes, the magical Christmas tree grows and grows, Clara’s nutcracker doll and his army of toy soldiers come to life, and Clara is swept away into a fantasy adventure through an enchanting winter wonderland of dancing snowflakes to the magical kingdom of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
The spectacular staging was created especially for the Royal Albert Hall with Simon Callow as the voice of Clara’s mysterious godfather, Drosselmeyer. Video and projection by Tony-Award-winning 59 Productions (An American in Paris, War Horse) and gorgeous period costumes conjure up a spellbinding fantasy world, in which Birmingham Royal Ballet’s superb dancers and the Royal Ballet Sinfonia weave their magic.
