Touch tour and audio-described performance
Touch tours and audio described performances give theatre-goers with visual impairments a chance to experience ballet with the help of a professional Audio Describer.
Birmingham Royal Ballet offers audio description at specified Saturday matinee performances. To complement these the Company offers Saturday morning touch tours, which give the chance to get up close and personal with the costumes, sets and props that bring a ballet alive. With the help of our Stage Management team, the Audio Describer will give you a hands-on guided tour. You will go onto the stage to experience the sets and props, and backstage into the dressing rooms to get a real feel for the beautiful costumes. Touch tours must be booked in advance through ticket sales.
Audio description is a live verbal commentary on the visual elements of a production as it unfolds. The description gives the information that a visually impaired person might miss.
Times below refer to Touch Tours; audio described matinees take place on the same dates and performance times can be found in the main performance calendars.
