OVERALL, PURPOSE OF JOB

To head the running costume team whilst on tour, during performance and at base.

Under the guidance of the Head of Costume, you will assume responsibility for costume maintenance and supervision of touring Costume technicians to ensure effective and efficient technical support is in place for all productions to the standard of the designer’s and the Costume Supervisor’s specification throughout the run of the production.

To oversee footwear requirements on tour when applicable.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Knowledge/ Skills, Ability and Experience:

Significant experience as a Head of Touring/ Running Wardrobe at a similar professional level with extensive touring experience of large-scale productions.
Ability to work away from home and overseas
Substantial experience in managing theatre costume needs and dressing.
An excellent knowledge of alteration and refurbishment techniques
An excellent knowledge of costume fitting and procedures.
An excellent knowledge of fabrics.
Excellent sewing skills and working knowledge of theatre costume
Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to lead and organize skilled theatre staff, including planning and the organization of the department to provide the best possible costume support
To be able to work calmly under pressure and clearly demonstrate an empathy with the pressures of the backstage performance environment.
Ability to work under minimum supervision and adapt work in accordance with performance requirements
Ability to take direction and work to production related standards and objectives.
Strong team leadership and supervisory skills.
Strong organization, time management and administration skills.
Problem solving approach and positive attitude
Friendly and approachable manner.
Willingness to learn new skills and pass on skills to other work colleagues
Commitment and flexibility to work evenings and weekends
Responsive to artistic needs.
Knowledge of costume cleaning and maintenance techniques

Desirable Specialist Knowledge:

Recognized Costume qualification
Experience with a dance company
