Our City, Your Ballet

To celebrate Birmingham and raise awareness of our presence in the city, we recently joined with photographer Clive Booth to capture spectacular images of the city and our dancers.

This is our home. Leap in!
Two dancers are on a black stage at Hockley Social Club in front of a black brick wall with the Birmingham Royal Ballet logo in thick, white letters projected onto it. In front, to the left and right of the dancers are audience members seated at tables with red candles on them. The audience members in front of the dancers and to the right are stood in front of the camera, looking at the stage, so, only the backs of their heads are in the image. The audience members to the left have their faces lit by the stage lights and are also looking at the dancers. The two dancers are just off-centre of the image and are playing the role of Odette and Prince Siegfried from Swan Lake. Céline Gittens is playing Odette. Céline has black hair tied in a bun and is wearing a white feathered headband with silver tiara. Céline is wearing a white tutu, sequinned top, white tights and pale pink pointe shoes. Céline’s arms are raised, the left slightly higher than the right, Céline’s eyes are closed, with gaze pointing downwards at Siegfried. Brandon Lawrence is playing Prince Siegfried. Brandon has short black hair and is wearing a black top, decorated with gold embellishments and is also wearing black tights. Brandon is holding Céline around the waist with both arms and is facing the right of the image, gaze affixed at Céline. Above the dancers heads is a rig of blue stage lighting, which is shining down onto the dancers, creating a mystical atmosphere. Behind the dancers but in front of the wall is a music stand, and a dimly lit black baby grand piano. In the background you can see the hints of the industrial setting of Hockley Social Club, such as artificial plants and silver pipes.
