Des Hughes was born in Birmingham and brought up in the North of the city. He has represented the ward of Kingstanding since 2010.

Des is currently the Deputy Chair of the Children’s Education and Social Care Scrutiny committee which examines the work of the Council in these areas.

He works with a number of local organisations that work to improve our local community, from litter-picking to education and is a firm believer in the benefit of education for everyone, at all stages of their lives.

Des is also a passionate advocate for equality and diversity and is proud to live in a city that actively promotes these principles.

He is delighted to be a Board member of Birmingham Royal Ballet which is such a wonderful, worldwide ambassador for the City of Birmingham.
