Peter Teigen is a lighting designer originally from Oslo who moved to the UK, where he initially worked with English Dance Theatre before joining London City Ballet in 1986 as Resident Lighting Designer, collaborating with choreographers and directors including Galina Samsova, Christopher Gable and André Prokovsky.

As a freelance lighting designer he has created work for companies and artists including English National Ballet, Robert North, Adam Cooper and Marc Baldwin Dance Company. He has also worked extensively with the Royal Opera House, including lighting Frederick Ashton’s Rhapsody and The Two Pigeons, and has recently recreated his lighting for Rhapsody for the Vienna State Ballet.

Peter has a longstanding association with Birmingham Royal Ballet, serving as Lighting Design Consultant from 2000 to 2022 and lighting many productions for the Company, including David Bintley’s The Prince of the Pagodas, Daniela Cardim’s Imminent and Will Tuckett’s Lazuli Sky. Other international work includes Sir Peter Wright’s Swan Lake for Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires, and productions with the New National Theatre, Tokyo, Australian Ballet Theatre and Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe.
