About Nutcracker Children's Auditions
We are looking for 16 children to join Birmingham Royal Ballet’s performances of The Nutcracker at Birmingham Hippodrome this Christmas.
The children feature in Act I of the ballet during the party scene where they interact with the dancers, they then perform the children’s dance as a group.

Audition location: Birmingham Royal Ballet, Thorp Street, Birmingham B5 4AU
Requirements
School years: 5, 6, 7 and 8 (from September 2026)
Maximum height: 142cm (4ft 8")
Children must live within 30 miles of Birmingham.
Please note
We will not be auditioning for the role of Fritz.
Children will be split into two groups for performances and will take it in turn to perform.
Rehearsals
Upon successful audition a full rehearsal schedule will be provided. An idea of the required commitment is detailed below:
- Late September – November: Evening rehearsals at Birmingham Royal Ballet
- Mid to late November: Stage rehearsals at Birmingham Hippodrome, afternoon and evenings.
You are also required to be available for all dates within the Nutcracker run at Birmingham Hippodrome from 20 November to 12 December. This includes both matinee and evening performances on all dates.
