The Big Give Christmas Challenge 2021

The Big Give Christmas Challenge closes at midday on Tuesday 7 December.

Thanks to our incredible supporters, we have achieved our target.

While this means donations will no longer be matched, we are on course to have our most successful online Big Give campaign yet.

Please donate here to help us set a new record!

In the video above, Senior Stage Manager Diana Childs discusses the importance of The Nutcracker to the Company and to our audiences.

Our plans to refurbish The Nutcracker's sets, staging and costumes are nearing completion, but we need the help of our audiences this Christmas.

Thanks to the generous support of Charles Glanville, Marian Mulady and The Kirby Laing Foundation, up to £50,000 of donations will be doubled.

All the money you donate will go towards the refurbishment of our Nutcracker costumes, props and sets, and will help restore this extraordinary show so that it can continue to inspire, dazzle and delight audiences for decades to come.

The campaign takes place between Tuesday 30 November and Tuesday 7 December.

Watch this wonderful film of John Macfarlane, the original artist and set designer of The Nutcracker, about what the production means to him and how it will be fully restored to its original splendour.

Sir Peter Wright created The Nutcracker for Birmingham Royal Ballet over 30 years ago. To this day it remains our most popular production and it has since been enjoyed by almost a million people. It is the first ballet many families will see and for regular ballet-goers, TheNutcracker is synonymous with bringing in the Christmas season.

Its beautiful sets, costumes and props have been used in over 1,000 performances and so in 2018, with the help of our audiences, we began the restoration of this important and much-loved production.

Over the last three years we have raised funds to restore its spectacular costumes, sets and props. We are grateful for all the support we have received and are nearly there. This Christmas we hope to raise the final £100,000 to restore this beloved production. This will ensure that The Nutcracker continues to be one of the world’s leading ballet productions enjoyed by audiences for another 30 years.
