Where are you from? I am born and raised in Birmingham, and I identify as Black British Caribbean as my heritage stems from Jamaica.
I am currently… studying Production Arts and Stage Management at BOA Stage and Screen. I’m in my last year where I am specialising in Costume, all whilst I delve into the world of entertainment behind the curtain and screen.
I am on the Creative Pathways programme because… I am fascinated with backstage theatre! I would like to gain hands-on practical knowledge in a backstage department which I can bring into my career and broaden my opportunities. I’m looking forward to developing my personal and technical skill set and collaborating with my peers as we learn about the departments which can sometimes go overlooked and under-appreciated by audiences and the media.
What are you passionate about? I am passionate about figuring out how things work. My curious and creative nature is why I am fascinated with backstage theatre and going from the audience to the wings, to the workshop is such an exciting journey that I would love to share and educate audiences about. Especially with how much collaboration, skill and passion goes into creating these performances which the world has come to cherish and love.
An interesting fact about me is… I am a Young Advocate for the Birmingham Hippodrome. Essentially, this means I am a young voice for the theatre, and I help to give feedback on how to get the youth involved from a unique diverse perspective. I also get to be involved in Hippodrome event planning and participation which is always a lot of fun because I get to meet a wide range of new people.
My first encounter with Birmingham Royal Ballet was watching Cinderella on the television with my family when I was younger. My most recent encounter is working as a member of the technical stage crew for the Nutcracker performances.
When is there enough green?
It’s a rhetorical question, you can never have enough green!
