Emily Morgan

Age: 20
Where are you from? I was born in South Wales and lived there until I was ten when I moved to East Yorkshire where my family and I still live.
I am currently… in my second year studying Dance.
I am a LEAP Ambassador because… I am very interested in the opportunities available to me while a part of the scheme and want to learn more about company management and lighting design in particular, both of which I haven’t been able to explore properly before so I’m very excited to do that with BRB!
What are you passionate about? Aside from dance, I’m very passionate about reading and have been since I was young, reading anything from old classics to new contemporary fiction. My most recent favourite book is The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, which is about an actress from the 50’s who decides to get someone to ghost write her autobiography which features each of her seven husbands and how and why their relationship ended. It’s beautifully written and is being made into a film next year which I’m very excited to see!
Interesting fact about me: I nearly broke my cheekbone at a dance convention when I was 16. I carried on dancing and refused to go to the hospital until I’d competed with my dance school.
My first encounter with Birmingham Royal Ballet was… watching the Nutcracker for the first time. This was when I really fell in love with ballet as a genre of dance which then made me audition for various programmes and ended with me studying dance in an academic context.
What colour do you feel most represents you and why? I think probably a dark green. I’ve also been a big fan of the outdoors and spent a lot of time visiting national trust cites and going on long hikes around their properties since I was very little and really love being in the forest areas especially, so I think I associate that kind of forest green colour with being around nature and my family and just being very happy and content there. It’s also a very calming colour and I like to surround myself with it especially when work and university gets stressful!
