The late Hayden Griffin was a highly respected theatre, opera and film designer, and long-time collaborator of David Bintley. ‘Still Life’ at the Penguin Café was the first ballet he designed for David Bintley and he went on to design Cyrano (Royal Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet), Hobson’s Choice (Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet), Job (San Francisco Ballet), Far from the Madding Crowd and Giselle (Birmingham Royal Ballet). His British theatre designs include 30 world premieres of plays by Bond, Osborne, Hare, Brenton, Miller and Mamet, for the National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company and in the West End, amongst others. He also worked extensively in Europe, America and Australia, and designed for film, and for the BBC and Channel 4. He died in 2013.
