The late Ian Spurling, costume designer of Elite Syncopations, was born in South Australia and studied in Adelaide and at the Slade School of Art, London. He worked in the Costume Department of The Royal Ballet whilst also designing for ballet and opera companies around the world including, The Seven Deadly Sins (Western Theatre Ballet, The Royal Ballet), La Fin du jour and Danses concertantes (The Royal Ballet). He also designed costumes for the late Freddie Mercury. He died in 1996.
