Jane Hackett
Jane Hackett is an Arts Consultant, focusing on organisational development and learning opportunities.
Jane trained at the Royal Ballet School and worked as a dancer and choreographer with ballet companies in UK, Europe and Mexico, the latter being run under the auspices of the National Ballet of Cuba, leading to a long relationship with the school and company in Havana. In the 1980’s she became Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet’s first Education Manager, based in Birmingham with the responsibility of raising the profile of ballet, in readiness for the transition to become Birmingham Royal Ballet. After working with the Royal Ballet to co-found the access programme ‘Chance to Dance’, she returned to BRB as Director of Learning, founding the Dance Track programme and the Dancers degree course. She then became Director of both Central School of Ballet and English National Ballet School. As dramaturg, Director and Producer, she has made work and curated festivals in venues ranging from outdoor spaces to international opera houses. At Sadler’s Wells she created and produced work for the main stage and Lilian Baylis Studio, was Director of Creative Learning and founded the National Youth Dance Company.
Until recently, Jane was the Project Director of the Civic Role of Arts Organisations at Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. Her work in education has given her a passionate belief in the power of the arts to create opportunity, community and change.
