Born in London, Kevin Earley, Principal Percussion, has always had a keen interest in the performing arts, acting in a number of West End shows and on television early in his career. He took up percussion at the age of 14 at the suggestion of his music master; his principal interest had previously been in acting. He trained at the Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, winning the coveted Silver Medal of the Worshipful Company of Musicians. While in Cardiff he regularly played for Welsh National Opera and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. He joined the Royal Ballet Sinfonia during his last year at college and was appointed Principal Percussionist in 1993. He plays a wide variety of music, working with many of the London orchestras (occasionally playing as guest principal with the Royal Philharmonic, Ulster and RTE Concert orchestras), playing for City of Angels, West Side Story and My Fair Lady in the West End and, for the last three years, working with Latin jazz band Frevo playing latin-American percussion.
