Matthew Wyon is a Professor in Exercise Physiology at the University of Wolverhampton, and the Chair of the Sport and Physical Activity Research Centre. His area of research is in the health and wellbeing of elite performers, currently focusing on the effect of low energy availability on performance, health and injury indices. Within this context he is the Director of Studies for a number of doctoral candidates particularly focused on dancers’ immediate and long-term health. He was a founding partner of the National Institute of Dance Medicine and Science (NIDMS), UK, where he currently acts as the scientific lead for NIDMS and guide the Institutes physiological testing screen for dancers.

Professor Wyon was the President of International Association for Dance Medicine and Science between 2015 and 2017 and previously chaired their Research and Professional Development Committees. He has worked with numerous dance companies as an applied physiologist and strength and conditioning coach and collaborated with a number of pre-professional dance training institutions to develop and programme their curriculums. He has published extensively on performance enhancement and injury epidemiology for dancers including British Association of Sport and Exercise Science Guidelines for testing dancers, Strength and Conditioning for Dancers, Periodisation: a framework for dance training and 160 peer-reviewed articles.
