Peter Leung makes his Birmingham Royal Ballet debut as Assistant Choreographer to Daniela Cardim for Imminent, part of the 2021 Curated by Carlos season.

Peter Leung is a multidisciplinary artist with a focus on choreography, stage direction and photography. He danced with the Bayerisches Staatsballett, Le Ballet de l’Opéra de Lyon and Dutch National Ballet.

He is a creative director of House of Makers, an interdisciplinary, site-specific arts foundation based in The Netherlands. Peter works with a wide range of performers and artists, looking to share knowledge and experience and create space for artists and the audiences to discover and grow. As a choreographer he has created work for Dutch National Ballet, New English Ballet Theatre, and museums including the Van Gogh Museum.

As part of his love for visual storytelling he has studied at the New York Film Academy and photography at Central Saint Martins, London. Peter created the first virtual reality ballet Night Fall, which was critically acclaimed by journalists ‘as a key moment in dance history’ (De Volkskrant). In 2020 Peter created film works for Dutch National Ballet, Studio Holgersson and Ballet Black. With Foundation House of Makers, he premiered Within Time, a live music theatre performance about what happens when the music stops. The piece was co-directed with Brigitte van Hagen and Fabienne Vegt as a direct response to the time we were experiencing.

Future projects include House of Makers’ new Virtual Reality dance work Narcissus & Echo, a piece about how self-obsession and echo chambers could destroy you, and From the sun’s perspective, a music theatre performance for a deaf and hearing audience. He is also directing Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas for Foundation Music Stages and creating a new piece for Elmhurst Ballet School, Birmingham.
